For more information, visit winshipcancer.emory.edu. **Winship is seeking qualified candidates for the Research Specialist, Lead position.** **Position details are as follows:** KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: + Under minimal supervision, performs a variety of specialized and complex research and laboratory tests and procedures. + Uses independent judgment in applying or adapting scientific techniques. + May assist in protocol design. + Investigates and proposes alternative experimental procedures for consideration by a principal investigator. + Assists in planning and scheduling research procedures. + Analyzes and interprets results of studies. + Demonstrates and trains others in the proper use/operation of laboratory techniques and equipment. + Calibrates, troubleshoots and performs routine repair and maintenance of equipment. + Reviews literature for related research developments and techniques and compiles findings. + Monitors laboratory processes to maintain quality assurance standards. + Records results of studies, compiles and analyzes data and prepares charts and graphs. + Monitors the handling, storage and disposal of hazardous substances. + Performs related responsibilities as required. + Employees in this classification may be required to work with, take specific precautions against and/or be immunized against potentially hazardous agents. ADDITIONAL JOB DETAILS: This Research Specialist, Lead, will work as part of the Winship Cancer Tissue & Pathology (CTP) shared resource, a multidisciplinary team focused on providing high quality human specimens and histology services to researchers. At the direction of the Laboratory Manager this Research Specialist, Lead, will perform both basic and advanced histological techniques including but not limited to: + Processing & embedding tissues + Sectioning specimens using a microtome or cryostat + Routine & special stains + Preparing solutions and reagents + Operating automated staining instruments & whole slide scanners + Assisting with single color chromogenic IHC & multiplex immunofluorescent IHC + Helping with assay optimization and troubleshooting + Assisting with equipment maintenance + Maintaining a clean and well-organized work area + Other duties as assigned by manager Applicants must have demonstrated experience with basic and advanced histological techniques. In addition, successful candidates will exhibit precise attention to detail, adaptability, professionalism, excellent time-management skills, and the ability to perform well under pressure with a large work volume. Demonstrated customer service & communication skills are a plus.
