Job Description

VP of Finance – Grand Targhee Resort

The VP of Finance is a senior leader responsible for overseeing all financial activities of Grand Targhee Resort, including accounting, financial planning and analysis, forecasting, budgeting, capital planning, cash management, and financial reporting. Reporting to the General Manager and serving as a key member of the Senior Staff Team, this role provides strategic financial leadership to support organizational growth, operational excellence, and long-term sustainability.

The VP of Finance partners closely with senior leaders, ownership, and external stakeholders to translate business strategy into actionable financial plans, inform enterprise-level decision making, and strengthen financial discipline across the organization. This role is expected to establish modern, agile financial practices while balancing fiscal responsibility with the Resort's commitment to exceptional guest and employee experiences.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Strategic Financial Leadership
    Own and lead all aspects of the Resort's financial strategy, including FP&A, forecasting, budgeting, accounting, capital planning, cash flow management, and financial reporting, with a focus on enabling informed, strategic decision‑making.
    Serve as a strategic advisor to the General Manager and Senior Staff members, providing financial insight on growth initiatives, capital investments, operational tradeoffs, and long‑range planning.
    Contribute to the development and execution of the Resort's strategic goals, aligning financial strategy with organizational priorities, mission, and long‑term sustainability.
  • Financial Planning, Analysis & Performance Management
    Lead the annual budgeting and long‑range planning processes, partnering with business unit leaders to develop realistic, data‑driven budgets, forecasts, staffing plans, and performance targets.
    Develop, own, and continuously refine financial models and forecasts; monitor key performance indicators and trends on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
    Provide clear, actionable reporting and analysis that translates complex financial data into insights for leaders across the organization.
    Drive continuous improvement in financial performance through cost management, margin optimization, and resource allocation.
  • Accounting, Controls & Reporting
    Oversee all accounting operations, including monthly close, reconciliations, audits, internal controls, and compliance with GAAP and applicable regulatory requirements.
    Expand, standardize, and enhance accounting and financial processes, systems, and controls to support scalability, accuracy, and operational efficiency.
    Ensure timely, accurate financial statements and reporting for internal leadership and external stakeholders.
  • Lead cash flow planning and liquidity management to ensure the Resort meets operational and capital needs throughout seasonal cycles.
    Partner with the General Manager on capital expenditure planning, prioritization, and post‑investment reporting.
    Optimize banking relationships, financing structures, and covenant compliance; support financing initiatives as needed.
    Oversee insurance programs and risk management strategies in partnership with external brokers.
  • Cross‑Functional Partnership & Organizational Impact
    Collaborate closely with department leaders to support forecasting, budgeting, and strategic initiatives across all business units.
    Elevate financial acumen across the organization by coaching leaders on financial drivers, budget accountability, and performance metrics.
    Provide financial guidance on contracts, vendor agreements, and third‑party partnerships.
  • Leadership & Team Development
    Lead and develop the Finance and Information Technology functions, fostering a high‑performing, service‑oriented team that supports enterprise objectives.
    Evaluate department structure, capabilities, and workflows to ensure scalability, efficiency, and alignment with organizational needs.
  • RESPONSIBILITIES TO SAFETY
    Protect the safety of self, co‑workers, and Grand Targhee Resort guests at all times.
    Report any potentially harmful equipment or situations to the appropriate department manager or immediate supervisor without delay.
    Report safety‑related accidents and incidents at once to immediate supervisor. Follow all Resort and department safety policies and procedures as outlined in the Resort's Occupational Safety & Health Compliance Manual and department‑specific procedures or manuals.
    Operate equipment in a safe manner that will not lead to injury of yourself or others.
    Drive in accordance with the law and Grand Targhee Resort policies.
  • SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
    Oversees the entire Finance Department, including accounting, reconciliation and information technology. Direct supervision of the Controller, and Information Technology Manager. Indirect responsibility for accounts payable, reconciliation and information technology staff positions.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Accounting, Finance, and/or business education and experience required. Ten years of related accounting and/or finance experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office products, particularly in Microsoft Excel. Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central accounting software a plus. Experience with Modeling a plus. Experience within the resort industry is a plus.

WORK SCHEDULE

Due to the nature of the recreation industry, we are in operation seven days a week. This includes weekends and holidays. Flexible working hours may be required based on the business levels. The department must be in a position to accomplish required tasks seven days a week.
