Job Description

Technical Drafter & Lighting / Industrial Designer

A luxury New York-based lighting design studio is seeking a Technical Drafter & Lighting / Industrial Designer to support the development and production of high-end, bespoke lighting fixtures. This role requires a strong understanding of manufacturing processes, technical drafting, and design execution, ensuring that creative concepts are translated into precise, production-ready documentation. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with the internal team, factory partners, and suppliers to facilitate smooth production, troubleshoot technical challenges, and maintain the highest standards of craftsmanship. This position is integral to refining designs, optimizing production workflows, and upholding the studio’s commitment to excellence in lighting design.

Skills & Experience
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and industry standards
  • Knowledge of lighting production, including materials, fabrication techniques, and assembly requirements
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks, Rhino, and Adobe Suite for technical drafting and design visualization
  • Ability to organize, maintain, and archive production documents and technical information systematically
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with the internal team and factory partners, ensuring smooth production and design execution
  • Experience working with vendors, fabricators, and suppliers to ensure manufacturing feasibility and resolve production challenges
  • Strong problem-solving skills to troubleshoot technical and production issues efficiently
  • Ability to manage project timelines, meet deadlines, and adapt to evolving design and production needs

Roles & Responsibilities
  • Produce detailed technical drawings for lighting production, including bills of materials and necessary documentation
  • Ensure technical drawings adhere to industry standards, safety regulations, and manufacturing constraints
  • Develop and maintain clear communication with the internal team and clients regarding bespoke lighting projects
  • Work closely with factories to ensure accurate translation of design goals into manufacturing processes
  • Maintain ongoing communication with factories throughout the production process to address technical requirements and resolve any issues
  • Conduct design revisions and updates as needed based on client feedback, manufacturing limitations, or internal adjustments
  • Collaborate with engineers, fabricators, and suppliers to troubleshoot production challenges and refine designs
  • Create installation instructions and tear sheets for products to support manufacturing and end-user understanding
  • Assist in developing 3D models for fixture concepts, ensuring feasibility and design integrity
  • Support the creation of product renderings for visualization and presentation purposes
  • Maintain an organized archive of technical drawings, 3D models, and related design documents for future reference
