Job Title: Sterile Processing Technician I

Job Summary:

The Sterile Processing Technician I is responsible for cleaning, decontaminating, sterilizing, and organizing surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies. The role involves ensuring infection control, maintaining equipment, and preparing surgical cases while adhering to established safety standards and protocols.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Perform thorough decontamination, cleaning, and disinfection of surgical instruments and equipment.
• Disassemble and inspect instruments for proper functioning and signs of damage.
• Operate and maintain sterilization equipment, including steam and low-temperature sterilizers.
• Monitor and document sterilization processes using mechanical and chemical indicators.
• Utilize instrument tracking systems to log tasks, track instrument sets, and maintain accurate records.
• Follow infection control guidelines when handling and transporting sterile packages.
• Troubleshoot equipment issues and report malfunctions to the appropriate personnel.
• Assist in maintaining stock levels of supplies and chemicals.
• Adhere to OSHA safety standards when handling chemicals and equipment.
• Demonstrate knowledge of cleaning agents, sterilization methods, and surgical instruments.

Skills and Qualifications:

• Ability to work with precision and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
• Knowledge of decontamination, sterilization processes, and infection control standards.
• Proficiency with instrument tracking systems and intermediate Microsoft Office skills.
• Strong manual dexterity and ability to operate technical equipment.

Education and Certification:

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Certification as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) preferred.
