Social Science Research Professional **School of Medicine, Stanford, California, United States** Research Post Date Apr 24, 2025 Requisition # 106357 Dr. Matthew Porteus in the Center for Definitive and Curative Medicine, Stanford Medicine, is seeking a full-timeSocial Science Research Professional 2. Dr. Porteus's research aims todevelop homologous recombination as a method of gene therapy for genetic diseases. His lab is particularly interested in the genetic diseases of the blood such as sickle cell disease, thalassemia, primary immunodeficiencies including severe combined immunodeficiency and hemophilia. He also has an interest in access to therapies for the international patient population, aiming to bring cures to populations locally. _In this role, the Social Science Research Professional will support the design and execution of multiple research studies, including addressing barriers and enablers of scaling gene therapies across developing nations. The position requires training in economics, public health research, expertise in implementing and interpreting statistical analyses, and the ability to carry out multiple concurrent research tasks (e.g., data collection, manuscript preparation, analyses). The_ Social Science Research Professional 2 will be an active member of a vibrant, interdisciplinary research team comprised of scientific collaborators in cell and gene therapy, medicine,genetics, and public health as well as policy experts and advocacy groups. Our team is committed to providing professional development for staff, including opportunities to collaborate on or lead manuscripts, submit to academic conferences, and obtain formal and informal training in new areas while in the position. --This position is in salary grade G, based on the Stanford Medicine campus and can be considered for remote or hybrid work upon agreement with the principal investigator. --A cover letter and resume are required to be considered for this position **Duties include:** · Assist in designing experiments, exercising independent initiative and judgment gained from completing a variety of high-level assignments, including activities such as defining variables, formulating hypotheses, and selecting subjects, sources of information, or planned and coordinating experimental research protocols. · Assist in implementing experiments (e.g., overseeing recruitment and randomization, performing qualitative control checks) · Assist in developing and implementing qualitative focus groups (e.g., supporting protocol development, providing assistance to the focus group moderator) · Interpret, synthesize, and analyze data using scientific or statistical techniques. Create data visualizations for research publications. · Solve problems, and make decisions that affect the direction of the research and result in independent contributions to the overall project. · Co-author sections of research publications and regulatory reports as needed. · Complete project-related administrative and budgetary responsibilities of a limited scope as needed. · Identify and synthesize relevant literature to support the development of research protocols and manuscripts. · Supervise staff or students as needed, including oversight and instruction on techniques, as well as consultation on project work. _*- Other duties may also be assigned_ _~ All members of the Department of Pediatrics are engaged in continuous learning and improvement to foster a culture where diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice are central to all aspects of our work. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs. The pay range for this position working in the California Bay area is $81,130.00 to $94,895.00/ annually.
