Job Description

Job Summary:  

A Level A Refrigeration Technician is a highly skilled professional responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining commercial and industrial refrigeration systems. This role demands advanced technical expertise, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in refrigeration systems, a deep understanding of HVAC principles, and a commitment to excellent customer service. 

 

Key Responsibilities:  

Diagnostics and Repairs:  

  • Troubleshoot and repair complex refrigeration systems, including compressors, condensers, evaporators, and control systems. 
  • Perform advanced diagnostics to identify issues and recommend appropriate solutions. 
  • Conduct leak testing, refrigerant recovery, and recharging according to EPA standards. 

Maintenance and Installation:  

  • Conduct preventive maintenance to ensure optimal performance and prevent breakdowns. 
  • Install and commission new refrigeration systems and components, ensuring compliance with manufacturer guidelines and safety regulations. 
  • Calibrate system controls and ensure proper operation of all components. 

Technical Documentation:  

  • Complete detailed service reports, including diagnostics, repairs, parts used, and system performance data. 
  • Maintain accurate records of refrigerant usage and compliance with EPA regulations. 

Customer Service:  

  • Interact professionally with customers, explaining technical issues and solutions in an understandable manner. 
  • Provide recommendations for system upgrades, energy efficiency improvements, and routine maintenance plans. 

Safety and Compliance:  

  • Adhere to all safety guidelines, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE). 
  • Comply with company policies, local building codes, and EPA refrigerant handling regulations. 
  • Stay up-to-date with industry advancements, certifications, and best practices. 

 

Qualifications:  

Education and Experience:  

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or trade school certification preferred. 
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in commercial and/or industrial refrigeration. 
  • EPA Section 608 Certification (Universal) required. 
  • Experience with ammonia systems or other advanced refrigeration systems is a plus. 

Skills and Abilities:  

  • In-depth knowledge of refrigeration principles, HVAC systems, and electrical components. 
  • Proficiency with diagnostic tools, multimeters, and other specialized equipment. 
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to resolve issues efficiently. 
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills. 
  • Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams, blueprints, and schematics. 

Physical Requirements:  

  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds regularly. 
  • Comfortable working in various environments, including cold storage facilities, rooftops, and confined spaces. 
  • Willingness to work on-call hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays when needed. 

 

Work Environment:  

  • Work may involve exposure to extreme temperatures, noisy environments, and refrigerants. 
  • Travel to client sites is required, with potential overnight stays depending on job locations.
