Job Description

Spring River School warmly invites applications for a  Class Teacher to join our  four-day, all-outdoor, Waldorf-inspired academic program serving grades 1–8, beginning in the school year 2026-27.

This position is ideal for an educator who feels called to work deeply with children, curriculum, and nature—someone who values rhythm, relationship, and reflective practice and thrives in a collegial, mission-driven community.

About Spring River School

Spring River School is an initiative of the  Jacksonville Educational Community , a parent- and educator-founded nonprofit. We are Florida’s first Waldorf-inspired, fully outdoor K–8 academic program, supporting homeschooling families through rich, developmentally grounded instruction and strong community life.

Class Teachers at Spring River make a meaningful professional and relational commitment to their students, families, and colleagues. Teachers are responsible for bringing a  living Waldorf curriculum to life through main lesson work, artistic practice, movement, storytelling, and experiential learning—entirely outdoors.

Teachers work within a  collaborative pedagogical leadership model , supported by mentoring, professional development, and shared responsibility.

Schedule

  • Monday–Thursday: Instructional days
  • Friday: Planning, faculty meetings, professional development, and administrative work (remote or on-site as scheduled)

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver developmentally appropriate, Waldorf-inspired curriculum blocks
  • Lead daily rhythm, including circle, main lesson, artistic work, and practice periods
  • Create and maintain a warm, orderly, and emotionally safe learning environment
  • Observe, assess, and document student development using qualitative, observational methods
  • Collaborate closely with Student Support colleagues to meet individual student needs
  • Communicate regularly and professionally with parents through newsletters, conferences, and meetings
  • Participate in faculty meetings, festivals, open houses, and community events
  • Prepare narrative reports and contribute to the school’s collegial life

Qualifications

  • A deep love for children and respect for parents
  • Minimum of  two years of classroom teaching experience (Waldorf experience strongly preferred)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Art, Psychology, or a related field
  • Waldorf teacher certification , or a sincere commitment to ongoing Waldorf training and certification
  • Openness to mentoring, feedback, and collaborative leadership
  • Willingness to engage professionally with the educational work of Rudolf Steiner
  • Comfort teaching outdoors in varied weather conditions

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary Range: $40,000–$50,000 annually
  • (Upper range reserved for highly experienced, Waldorf-trained teachers)
  • Annual cost-of-living increases
  • 40% tuition remission for eligible dependent children ( Spring River is a Direct Pay Provider for Florida Step Up for Students, which can make up to 100% of tuition)
  • Health stipend ($1,800 annually)
  • Paid time off aligned with the academic calendar, including summer time off
  • Paid professional development
  • Possible relocation stipend, based on need and capacity
