Job Description – Production Supervisor

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

This position is primarily responsible for training, directing, and coordinating the activities of the assigned production team, and leading and managing day-to-day activities, in a safe and effective manner in order to produce quality products on time for our customers. The Production Supervisor is responsible for communicating and executing the goals of the organization, through their respective department, effectively. Develop and implement daily production targets, assignments, and sequences in alignment with production objectives outlined by the Plant Manager. Work with other Production Supervisors to ensure synergy and continuation of work in progress. Clearly communicate job expectations, including planning and oversight, to production floor Team Leads and team members. Monitor and report consumable and raw material needs to the Materials Department preemptively, minimizing disruptions to production. Some of the other duties and responsibilities of a Production Supervisor are:

 

Safety : One of the most important responsibilities of a Production Supervisor is to ensure that the team is working in a safe manner and following all safety rules and regulations.

  • This will include proper and complete use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when required, ensuring that attire complies with company policy, following 5S methods to ensure the areas are tidy and clutter-free (a place for everything and everything in its place), as well as the proper use of tools or equipment. 

 

Quality : The Production Supervisor is responsible for maintaining high standards of quality on the work being produced while attaining our production goals. Ensure that higher quantities produced do not compromise quality. 

  • Customer specific standards must be obtained before a job begins and communicated effectively to the team. 
  • Following all processes and completing all required paperwork is vital to the operation.
  • If defects are discovered in products or in the process, it is the Production Supervisor’s responsibility to STOP producing defective product, escalate immediately and help facilitate corrective actions. Collaborate with QA and other affected departments to coach, implement corrective actions and documentation.
  • When in doubt, ask.

 

Performance : Driving and attaining the performance targets set by the Leadership team for each specific job. A Production Supervisor has to ensure that they are doing everything in their capacity to help the team achieve its targets.

  • All jobs are to be completed within the allocated timeframe and labor hours. This will include monitoring production output and recording data.
  • Recording production output data and quality checks hourly. Escalate production output lower than planned. Help facilitate and drive corrective actions. 
  • Constant station checks to promote accuracy and quantity. Use stopwatch other Lean tools to check station process vs expected plan. Manage the utilization of materials to ensure an appropriate number of parts are available to maintain smooth production flow. Identify wasteful practices and methods. Report any problems/concerns with viable solutions to the Plant Manager, and report suggestions recommended by associates for procedure change, etc.
  • Coach team members when their work does not meet expectations.
  • Ensure that the team is leaving and arriving back from breaks/lunch in time.
  • Throughout the day, maintain a clean work area.
  • Identify and submit ideas and solutions to process issues based on observations and analysis. 

 

Team development : The Production Supervisor develops the team and individuals to ensure they consistently deliver the required performance and quality our customers depend on.

  • Monitor individual team members to identify areas of opportunity and provide coaching.
  • Provide feedback to employees on how they are progressing. Create goals for employees in need of coaching and follow up. Let them know you are there to lead and support.
  • The Production Supervisor sets the tone for the entire group. That means the Production Supervisor has to provide the motivation to keep other team members going. It also means being vigilant and knowing when the team can be pushed to accomplish more and when they need to back off.

Candidate Requirements

  • ERP System Experience 
  • Time and Attendance Experience (Synerion/ADP or comparable)
  • Preferred 5 Years Supervisory Experience
  • Education: High School Diploma or Above
  • Bi-Lingual in English and Spanish is a Plus, Not Required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Products
