Location:   Upper West Side, New York + travel to Aspen and The Hamptons

Contract:   Full-time, permanent & 2 days off/week

Salary:  $120,000 to $150,000/year + benefits

Accommodation:   Not provided in New York; provided (hotel/rental) during travel

Start Date:   Early September 2025

Guests:   Family of 4 (2 adults, 2 teenagers).

Job description:

A high-profile family of four based in the Upper West Side of New York is seeking a professional and experienced Private Chef to join their household full-time. The position is Monday to Friday, with most weekends off (except during occasional travelling periods). Fridays include Shabbat dinners for up to 12/14 guests, supported by additional staff when guest numbers exceed eight.

The chef will be responsible for preparing mostly dinners (occasional lunches), 5 days per week, with a strong emphasis on high-protein, healthy, fresh, and seasonal ingredients. 

They enjoy a wide variety of cuisines, such as Mexican, Asian, Mediterranean, and Italian, and are open to new suggestions. At times, the chef will be required to prepare specific family recipes.   The chef must be comfortable preparing these dishes exactly according to the provided instructions , as they are an essential part of the family's traditions.

The family often dine out, sometimes several evenings per week, and   the chef must be highly flexible to adjust to these changes  -  preparing lunches instead of dinners when needed. A key requirement for this role is adaptability, with the understanding that plans may change frequently.

The family includes two teenagers who occasionally invite friends over last minute. The chef must be comfortable accommodating such changes and preparing casual meals quickly when needed. While formal or fine dining is not expected for the teens or their guests, the chef should be prepared to cook for both adults and children, depending on the situation.

The ideal candidate is discreet, easygoing, and able to work in a dynamic household where both principals work from home. Flexibility, low ego, and the ability to integrate smoothly with the family are essential.

Dietary restrictions include   allergies to tree nuts and shellfish   for the children, and one of   the principals avoids pork and shellfish  (however, the other principal enjoys it). The family prioritises wellness and healthy eating and values a chef who understands and supports this lifestyle.

The role involves seasonal travel to Aspen and the Hamptons for weekly stays. During these trips, accommodation, hotel stays, or rental car options will be arranged. The household is pet-friendly, and the chef should be happy to interact with the family’s animals when needed.

A one-week paid trial will take place before the start of the full-time position.
