The Civil Service Commission of the Village of Tinley Park is accepting lateral transfer applications for entry level employment for the position of Lateral Patrol Officer A-2 with the Village of Tinley Park Police Department.

The Tinley Park Police Department has more than 150 employees, including 94 full-time, sworn positions that are split into two divisions: Operations, which is in charge of patrol, and Administration, which is charge of records and investigations. REQUIREMENTS: 

• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Must be at least 21 and no more than 39 years of age as at time of application.
• Applicants with military experience and prior employment experience as Tinley Park Patrol Officer may be entitled to an exception to this requirement. See 65 ILCS 5/10-1-7 and Tinley Park Village Ordinance 2000-0-069.
• At least one of the following educational or experience requirements must be met:
• Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science Degree from a four-year college or university.
• Associates Degree or 60 hours of college credit with at least a "C" average (or equivalent) and with an emphasis, in either case, being placed on course work in the law enforcement field.
• High School graduate with at least two years satisfactory experience as a certified/sworn law enforcement officer in the State of Illinois.
• An existing Part-time Patrol Officer with the Village of Tinley Park pursuant to Section 33.20 of the Village of Tinley Park Code who has been a Part-time Patrol Officer with the Village for a minimum of four years, prior to the test date and also has met the minimum training requirements for full-time Police Officers established by the State of Illinois.
• Must have fulfilled the requirements of the Illinois Police Training Act and have their ILETSB certification.
• Possess a valid driver's license.

Regardless of a Lateral applicant's work experience, all Lateral Transfer applicants shall be considered only for entry level employment without retention of seniority or credit for salary based on seniority. Any service credit for retirement purposes shall be calculated in accordance with Illinois pension law (40 ILCS 5/3 et seq).
