THE POSITION

Are you passionate about monitoring and enforcing Pennsylvania's laws that protect workers? If so, start a new chapter in your career with the Department of Labor & Industry as a Labor Law Investigator in the Bureau of Labor Law Compliance Pittsburgh Regional Office. This position gives you the opportunity to provide employees and employers with information regarding state employment laws and conduct investigations to ensure fair labor standards in the workplace. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Labor Law Investigator, you will be tasked with screening complaints, collecting physical evidence and eye witness accounts, conducting detailed interviews, and inspecting businesses or projects for potential violations. You will also be responsible for coordinating with your supervisor regarding the status of each investigation, preparing case narratives, and maintaining timely, detailed work notes of each case's progress. As an Investigator, the decisions you make in collaboration with your supervisor will determine the course of each investigation including when to have administrative conferences, visit an establishment, or recommend a case be taken to court. Teamwork and effective communication skills are essential for effectively executing the responsibilities in this role.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, home headquartered

  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.

  • This position is home headquartered. In order to be home headquartered, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.

  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of technical investigative or construction and trades experience and an associate's degree in a field related to investigative or construction and trades work; or

  • One year of technical investigative or construction and trades experience and a bachelor's degree; or

  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must possess and maintain federally compliant identification such as a U.S. Passport, REAL ID, or Military ID. Proof of possession will be needed at the time of a conditional offer of employment.

  • You must live in or be willing to move to the geographic region the Pittsburgh District Office covers by date of hire. Expenses will not be paid. Counties include: Allegheny, Beaver, Crawford, Erie, Greene, Lawrence, Mercer, Venango, Washington, and Westmoreland.

  • You must demonstrate ability to adhere to the values and ethics of the Department of Labor & Industry.

  • You must demonstrate ability to work with professionalism, discretion, and good work ethic.

  • You must have solid written and verbal communication skills.

  • You must show initiative and problem solving skills.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Experience in conducting investigations or working in construction and trades, business management, financial services, accounting, or conflict resolution

  • An associate's degree or greater, in a field related to investigative work in construction and trades, business management, financial services, accounting, or conflict resolution

  • Experience enforcing labor standards or labor and employment laws

  • Experience testifying at administrative or court hearings
