The Electrophysiology Technician assists physicians during electrophysiology lab procedures by preparing equipment, monitoring patients, and maintaining sterile technique. They perform patient assessments, administer medications as directed, and operate specialized cardiac diagnostic and therapeutic equipment. Certification in cardiovascular or radiologic technology and proficiency in life support techniques are required for this clinical support role in a healthcare setting.
Description
The Electrophysiology Technologist prepares for and assists the physician in the testing and/or treatment of patients in the Electrophysiology Lab procedures. Performs as a monitor tech and scrub tech; maintaining sterile technique.
The EPT performs/reviews baseline patient assessment, evaluates patient response to diagnostic or interventional maneuvers and medications during Electrophysiology laboratory procedures, provides patient care and administers drugs commonly used in the EP lab as directed by a qualified physician. The EPT is proficient in basic cardiac life support. The EPT is proficient in the operation and maintenance, as specific by the manufacturer, of all diagnostic and therapeutic EP equipment used for procedures.
