Other Conditions: Temporary Casual position to begin approximately March 2025 or soon thereafter. Continuation is dependent on satisfactory performance, program needs, and renewal of funds.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Principal Investigators (PIs), serve as an Early Childhood Education Specialist for extramurally funded project(s) related to improving STEM education for PreK to 2 with a special focus on students with disabilities and students who are Native Hawaiian.
Develop, implement, and assess culturally responsive STEM curriculum and activities that contribute to best practices in the field for PreK to 2 and their parents.
Review, refine and copy edit existing project developed lessons, activities and other programming.
Develop, lead/co-lead and teach math and science workshops, trainings and programs.
Develop and implement recruitment programs and activities for schools, students and parents, and mentors.
Coordinate and collaborate with partner and contracted organizations to plan and carry out PreK to 2 STEM enrichment programs.
Lead/Co-lead parent workshops to engage parents with childrens learning.
Lead evaluation activities and data collection with data and evaluation specialist.
Prepare and organize materials and documents for project programs.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree in Teaching, Early Childhood Education, Special Education, Educational Psychology, STEM, or related field from a college or university of recognized standing.
Experience teaching/tutoring children grades PreK to 2 who are from underrepresented minority groups.
Experience working with parents of young children through workshops, training, or use of technology.
Basic understanding of educational or social science research practices pertaining to research implementation, data collection and dissemination.
Demonstrated ability to work independently on assigned tasks, prioritize tasks, and see tasks through completion.
Ability to travel independently to various geographical site/school locations in a timely manner and work on some weekends for project-related activities.
Ability to communicate effectively in speaking and writing to various audiences including parents of students with diverse needs.
Desirable Qualifications:
Experience teaching/tutoring children with disabilities in grades PreK to 2 range.
Experience developing and teaching lessons, activities, or curriculum that has a focus on STEM.
Demonstrated understanding and application of theories and effective strategies in early childhood education.
Demonstrated experience in planning, organizing, and implementing face-to-face and online professional development/workshops for tutors/mentors, teachers and/or parents.
Experience differentiating curriculum and activities for students with disabilities and other diverse learners.
Course work in or solid understanding of Hawaiian history, culture, and language.
Familiarity and experience in working with schools in Hawaii and their students and families.
Familiarity and experience in collaborating with Native Hawaiian organizations in Hawaii.
