Position Overview:

AZWIFA is seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Construction Project Accountant to manage the financial activities of multiple construction projects. This role ensures accurate accounting, reporting, and compliance with internal policies, project contracts, and regulatory requirements. The accountant will support project managers and leadership by providing financial visibility and cost control throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities: Daily Accounting Functions:
  • Process vendor invoices, subcontractor billings, and material purchases.
  • Match purchase orders, delivery tickets, and invoices for accuracy.
  • Ensure timely approvals and proper cost code allocation.
  • Track retention and subcontract compliance.
Job Cost Accounting:
  • Record daily project costs against budgets and cost codes.
  • Maintain and reconcile job cost reports.
  • Analyze budget-to-actual variances.
  • Track committed costs, change orders, and potential exposures.
General Ledger & Month-End:
  • Post journal entries and maintain project-level ledgers.
  • Reconcile accounts, bank statements, and vendor records.
  • Assist with monthly close, accruals, and WIP schedules.
Compliance & Documentation:
  • Maintain financial records, contracts, insurance certificates, and lien waivers.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and state/federal regulations.
  • Support audits and external reporting.
Additional Duties:
  • Collaborate with grantees on financial matters.
  • Coordinate with the Governor's office on grant transfers and expense transactions.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives related to project management and disbursement tracking.
Required Skills:
  • Proficiency in accounting ERP/software (preferably AZ360).
  • Experience with eCivis or similar grant management platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of project accounting and disbursement tracking.
  • 5 10 years of relevant experience (or 5+ years direct experience in lieu of degree).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
