The Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) serves as the administrative leader for the Institute for Human Genetics (IHG) and a key strategic advisor to the IHG Director for all administrative operational matters. The CAO reports to the IHG Director and indirectly to the Vice Dean of Finance and Administration for the School of Medicine.
In collaboration with the Director, the CAO functions as a strategic planning partner, providing skillful administrative, operational, and financial management at all sites. The CAO oversees all strategic and functional activities within the IHG, including financial and personnel management, compliance, risk management, resource planning, and space allocation, and the administration of systems supporting the institute's research and teaching goals. The CAO works to maximize the utilization of all department and program resources and to provide and maintain administrative excellence in all aspects of the IHG. The CAO has administrative operations responsibility for more than 13 paid staff and 9 faculty personnel, as well as the 3 students, 5 postdocs, and 6 paid specialists. Effectively managing existing collaborative agreements demands the capability to negotiate, resolve issues, and build consensus with administrators and faculty outside the Institute, with whom this unit does not have a formal reporting relationship. These partnerships are crucial, and the CAO must adeptly guide them through potentially challenging administrative transitions. The CAO will oversee all aspects of meetings, seminars, journal clubs, workshops, and symposiums, providing strategic direction and ensuring successful execution. This role involves supervising logistics, including scheduling, venue arrangements, catering, and participant communication, while monitoring budgets to ensure fiscal responsibility. With strong leadership and organizational skills, the CAO will anticipate challenges, facilitate solutions, and ensure smooth operations and high-quality outcomes. In addition to strategic planning and managing the IHG's overall operations and financial viability, this position must respond and adapt to new campus and school-level initiatives. This role is recognized as an influential leader within the University. This position is expected to actively participate and provide input on campus and school committees, representing the needs of IHG and acting as a representative of the school and its broader set of constituents when needed. This role is also expected to engage in university service commitments such as serving as a Skelly Officer and Step One Officer and serving on committees such as Funds Flow 2.0 Workgroups, Enterprise Resource Planning System groups, SMAC, etc.The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $105,900 - $206,300 (Annual Rate).
