McPherson College invites applications for the position of Assistant Track & Field and Head Cross Country Coach . The successful candidate will lead and manage the men’s and women’s cross country and assist in the distance track & field running programs in alignment with the college’s mission, the athletic department’s goals, and NAIA and KCAC regulations. Reporting directly to the Director of Track and Field and Cross Country, the Head Coach is responsible for all aspects of coaching, recruiting, scheduling, and fostering a culture of academic and athletic excellence within the Cross Country program.
The Assistant Track & Field and Head Cross Country Coach will lead, organize, and oversee all aspects of the men’s and women’s cross-country programs. This includes developing comprehensive training plans, practice schedules, and race strategies designed to enhance both team and individual performance. The coach will be responsible for recruiting and retaining student-athletes who align with McPherson College’s academic standards and values, while also promoting their academic success, personal growth, and overall well-being. In close collaboration with the Director of Track and Field and Cross Country, the coach will coordinate the development of cross country and distance track athletes.
Additionally, the coach will manage the Cross-Country programs travel arrangements, equipment, and inventory in compliance with college policies. Ensuring full adherence to NAIA, KCAC, and institutional rules and regulations is a critical responsibility. The coach is expected to foster a team culture grounded in sportsmanship, integrity, and community engagement. Working with the Director and the college’s Athletic training staff , the coach will optimize athlete performance and health. The position also involves contributing to fundraising efforts, alumni engagement, and promotional activities to support the visibility and sustainability of the program. Maintaining current certifications in CPR, First Aid, and NAIA compliance training is required.
Qualifications:
Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and have demonstrated experience in coaching cross country at the collegiate, high school, or club level. Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills are essential, along with an understanding of the role athletics plays in a small college setting.
Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree in a related field, collegiate-level coaching and recruiting experience, and familiarity with NAIA rules and regulations. Experience coaching distance events in track and field is also considered a plus.
