The Georgetown Medical Humanities Initiative invites applications for adjunct instructors to teach core and elective courses in the Medical Humanities Program within the Georgetown University College of Arts and Sciences for the 2025-2026 academic year.

Teaching Opportunities

Priority will be given to candidates interested in:

  1. Teaching core courses
  2. Developing new elective courses
  3. Team teaching

Approved 3 credit courses will be eligible for senior undergraduate, graduate, or medical student Teaching Assistants.



Core Courses include:

  • Introduction to Medical Humanities (MHUM 1101)
  • Senior Capstone Seminar in Medical Humanities (MHUM 4960)




Qualifications
Candidates should possess:

  • A doctoral degree (MD or PhD in humanities or social sciences)
  • Demonstrated expertise in medical humanities
  • Teaching experience and/or publications in medical humanities-related fields, including but not limited to:
    • Literature and medicine
    • Narrative medicine
    • History of health and medicine
    • Medical anthropology
    • Medical sociology
    • Science and technology studies
    • Visual and performing arts and health

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position is $7,000 - $7,200 which represents the full range of anticipated compensation for this position. Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs and external factors.
